Pursuant to W. Va. Code R. § 11-14-1 et seq., Registration to Practice During Declared State of Emergency, beginning in March 2020 eligible physicians and physician assistants could register with the Board to practice in West Virginia during the COVID-19 State of Emergency.
The COVID-19 State of Emergency ended on January 1, 2023, at which time the Board ceased accepting COVID-19 Emergency Registration Applications. Pursuant to W. Va. Code R. § 11-14-1 et seq. all emergency registrations issued by the Board expired on or before January 5, 2023.

The West Virginia Board of Medicine is the sole authority for the issuance of licenses to practice medicine and surgery, to practice podiatry, and to practice as a physician assistant in collaboration with MDs and DPMs in the State of West Virginia, and is the regulatory and disciplinary body for medical doctors, podiatric physicians and their physician assistants.
