Online renewal began at 8:30 am Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on May 6, 2026. All renewed licenses will be valid until 11:59 pm EDT on June 30, 2028. Failure to renew by 4:30 pm EDT on June 30, 2026 will result in license expiration.

Renewal Fee
The Board’s renewal fee for physicians has not changed:
ACTIVE STATUS LICENSE - $400.00 INACTIVE STATUS LICENSE - $150.00
ACTIVE status licensees may change their licensure status during renewal. To change a license status from INACTIVE to ACTIVE, please contact the Board.
CME Reminder
Renewal applicants must successfully complete all required CME between July 1, 2024 and the date that a renewal application is submitted.
West Virginia Controlled Substance Monitoring Program
Database Registration
Physicians who have prescribed or dispensed any Schedule II, III, IV and/or V controlled substances pursuant to a West Virginia medical license since July 1, 2024, must be registered to access to the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy’s Controlled Substance Monitoring Program (CSMP) database. Renewal applicants will need to attest to CSMP registration status on the renewal application.

The West Virginia Board of Medicine is the sole authority for the issuance of licenses to practice medicine and surgery, to practice podiatry, and to practice as a physician assistant in collaboration with MDs and DPMs in the State of West Virginia, and is the regulatory and disciplinary body for medical doctors, podiatric physicians and their physician assistants.
