2020 Controlled Substance Dispensing Practitioner Registration Renewal for Physicians Whose Last Names Begin with the Letters A through L

To assist the West Virginia Board of Medicine in relieving regulatory burdens on practitioners who are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor has suspended certain provisions of the Medical Practice Act to give the Board flexibility regarding license expiration and renewal during the current State of Emergency. This has allowed the Board to extend the licensure expiration date for all physicians whose last names begin with the letters A through L from June 30, 2020 until September 30, 2020. Controlled Substance Dispensing Practitioner Registration renewal for A through L physicians is also extended until September 30, 2020.

Controlled Substance Dispensing Practitioner Registrations for physicians whose last names begin with the letters A through L are scheduled to expire at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on September 30, 2020. There is no grace period for office-based dispensing and/or administering after the registration expires.  All practitioners who engage in office-based dispensing and/or administering of controlled substances, including free samples of controlled substances, must be registered with the Board as a Controlled Substance Dispensing Practitioner.

The Controlled Substance Dispensing Practitioner Registration renewal process for this cycle requires the submission of a paper application along with the associated fee. The 2020 Controlled Substance Dispensing Practitioner Registration Renewal Application for physicians whose last names begin with the letters A through L will be available for download on the Board’s website beginning May 11, 2020.
